Day 6

Start mileage 91872
End mileage  92152
Daily total 280
To date total miles 1159

Well it is time to leave the comfort of my relatives home and their hospitality. I have enjoyed this visit like none other. We have a lot of history and it is just like being at my own home being here. I have to  get back here with the wife one day soon. It might be a while since I am retired and she is only in training to be retired but still working full time.

Heading out around Atlanta on US 285 and want to find a rural route I see on the map. It might take me by the Little White House,  FDR's summer place. Hopefully I will not miss it as I go by. Taking my time today and will wind up in Ft Walton Beach area sometime today or tomorrow.

Ain't it  great!

Followed the suggestion of waiting until 9:30 am to start out. The idea is to miss most of the rush hour traffic. The highway was still busy but not stop and go. Got off the expressway when I found GA 85 S. Took this to Fayetteville Ga. Ran through town and decided to stop and take some pictures as well as eat lunch. I stopped in the municipal parking lot where all the towns government offices are located. Very nice area. See pictures.

Several locals meeting at the municipal offices.

I believe this is now the Chamber of Commerce building.

Town History

Just a silly shot of the clock tower.

Never pass up a chance to take advantage of all facilities.

Local shops in the area.

After lunch back on the bike and venture on taking GA 85 S to Warm Springs Ga. FRD made this town famous by purchasing many acres around the warm springs there that were supposed to relieve pain associated with is  polio.

FRD's stage coach he rode in.

His car he drove around Warm Springs in.

The site is of course ready for all to attend.

FDR died while sitting for this portrait which was never finished.

The Little White House.

Followed GA 27 and got around Columbus GA. Then US 431 through Eufaula AL and then to Dothan AL. That is where I stopped for the night at the first camp ground I saw. Pecan Point RV park.

  1. Here's a map of your travels so far. May not be the same roads you have taken but none the less very impressive. http://goo.gl/maps/PX31R Keep it shiny side up!
