Day 1

Starting mileage 90975
End of day mileage 91206
Total 231 miles.

Stopped for gas once to fill tank just before Ashland, VA where the KOA is located cause the empty icon came on. Did  not want to press my luck since I forgot to fill my spare gas can this morning.

Left home this morning around 10:00 am. Had to run some errands like money, gas, food for the day and some ice.

Finally hit the road around 11:15 am to a very cloudy day. I will post a picture of the bike in front of the house before I left in a day or two when I get used to typing and blogging from my camp site.
Ran into rain, yes real rain  in Thurmont MD. Stopped at a Sheetz to get some coffee and think about what I was going to do. Used my Droid phone to check the weather along my way. Seems rain until south of Leesburg, VA.
Got my rain gear on and proceeded to travel on. It was about 55 degrees and wet but after Leesburg the temp climbed into the 70's. I stopped to have some lunch in a 7 Eleven parking lot and took off my rain gear. Now the roads were mostly dry.
Route 15, Route 29 and Route 17 are not divided highways in the country. No they go through towns and stuff. Slow going but who is in a hurry. It got warmer and I stopped to take off the last of my cold weather gear. Now that it was more comfortable it also was more enjoyable riding along the highway.
Finally hit US  95 and was moving along well. Speed  limit is 70, loved it.
At exit 89 I got off to find the KOA. It was really easy to find once I finally found it. I was suffering from a slight headache from all the sunshine. But once at the camp site all was well after a refreshing Budweiser and  some sitting time.

Tent is up, supper cooked and  ate. Doing some typing and then to the showers for a refreshing splash.

Tomorrow morning up and making a boxed cereal breakfast and breaking camp. I am not looking forward to trying to get all this gear back into the trailer. The second day out is always hard to figure out how you packed for the first day. I hope I do not have to leave anything behind.

BTW, Called wife and brother to  let them know I am still kicking.

  1. Hooray--second day and my $20 seems like a "sure thing". Lost my phone this morning then realized the buzzing wasn't a stinkbug flight, but my cell which was on your side of the bed. Whisp is a little sad and lost and allowed me to hold him after his a.m. brushing routine. Love reading about your grand ride and look forward to a blurp from Mullins. Love you, love you.
